What is HTML?
Tags, and your very first page.
5 minutes2 games
HTML isn't a programming language; it's a markup language. It tells the browser “this is a heading”, “this is a paragraph”, “this is an image”. It does that with tags: a word inside < >. Most tags open and close, and the closing one has a /.
HTML
<h1>My first page</h1> <p>Hello! This is a paragraph.</p> <p>And this is <strong>another</strong> one.</p>
Press “Run” to see the page under the code. Change the text and run again.

</html><head>holds information about the page that isn't shown, like the tab title.<body>holds everything the visitor sees.<!-- ... -->is a comment; the browser ignores it.
